At this year's Hannover Messe, the COSMO CONSULT Group is the only Microsoft Dynamics partner from the German-speaking area presenting a new “Industry 4.0” scenario at Microsoft’s stand (Hall 7, Stand C40). With more than 3,200 customers, COSMO CONSULT is one of the world's leading Microsoft Dynamics partners and a leading provider of end-to-end solutions. In the scenario conceived especially for the trade fair, the software vendor has taken up the theme of this year's fair: "Integrated Industry - Connect and Collaborate". With the help of an example from the field of shipbuilding, visitors will learn how companies optimize collaboration with project service providers using modern technology platforms. The showcase highlights how the technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) help keep track of project progress, create quality reports on the go, and support customers with additional services throughout the product’s lifecycle.

This year's COSMO CONSULT Group scenario is part of an Industry 4.0 solution: it shows how a ship owner uses intelligent rudders from Becker Marine Systems GmbH. Sensors mounted on the rudders monitor their behavior during operation and make status information available in the Microsoft Azure Cloud. The company from Hamburg, which provides equipment for ships, tracks the information as part of predictive maintenance. In the scenario, abnormal readings indicate that there has been excessive wear on one rudder. Becker Marine Systems informs the shipowner that in the foreseeable future there may be a malfunction and recommends replacing the part. One advantage of predictive maintenance is that it makes long term planning possible. Since potential operational risks are discovered early on, service appointments can be scheduled for a time that is best for the operations. In this case, the shipowner replaces the rudder when it is time for the routine TÜV inspection of the cargo ship.

IoT technologies ensure transparency

Becker Marine Systems also relies on IoT technologies when installing the new rudder. The information that is produced while preparing for the installation, mounting the rudder, and performing the final quality assurance check is also made available in the cloud, regardless of whether it is collected on mobile devices or reported by sensors. All components that are delivered to the shipyard from the factory are equipped with sensors that continuously report current location coordinates. This allows the service technicians to locate the delivered parts via tablet or smartphone and start the installation work quickly. The three-dimensional CAD models of the rudder system available on mobile devices help the technicians carry out each individual step in the proper way. In later quality assurance monitoring, specialists check the work that has been carried out, for example the quality of the welds, using electronic checklists on mobile devices. After that, the digital test reports are added to the full report.

The biggest advantage of seamless digital workflows is the transparency that you gain. COSMO CONSULT’s solution automatically informs Becker Marine Systems about current progress and the project status - even if the installation is being done in a shipyard in Asia. This eliminates the need for most routine communication and coordination. Regular feedback ensures a high level of safety during the assembly process. Because errors and abnormalities are detected early on, the employees can take counter measures in time. This leads to higher process quality overall.

One scenario for many possible areas of application

Of course, the COSMO CONSULT solutions are not only useful in the field of shipbuilding, but also for the inspection of production sites, the shutdown phases of large industrial plants, the maintenance and modernization projects of medium-sized companies and other similar projects. "At the Hannover Messe, we will be showing how you can use the cloud and the Internet of Things for the maintenance and upgrading of products and complex industrial plants. With our “Industry 4.0” solutions based on thought-out plans and end-to-end strategies, we provide support for our customers with the process of digital transformation and we also enable them to establish new business models all along the value creation chain and in after-sales service,” says Uwe Bergmann, CEO of COSMO CONSULT. A decisive factor for the successful implementation of operation-specific scenarios is the cooperation network of the COSMO CONSULT Group, which includes committed companies and research institutes such as BOSCH, Microsoft, telent / Euromicron and the Fraunhofer IFF. You can learn more about this, too, at the exhibition stand.
