Josera GmbH & Co. KG is a medium-sized family business based in Kleinheubach near Aschaffenburg. Since 1941, the company has produced and sold healthy, high-quality food for livestock and, for over 20 years, also for dogs, cats and horses. The company is internationally oriented and currently employs around 240 people. The products are sold in more than 25 countries. Two years ago, Josera Polska established a subsidiary in Poland exclusively producing mineral feeds for the Eastern European market. The topics of process optimization and quality management are accordingly important in this context.
The process optimization approach requires the ad-hoc availability of valid data and key figures for the company situation. The rapidly growing need for information could no longer be met by the evaluations available so far. Above all, analyses of the overall situation were needed.
"We were looking for an evaluation solution that could be used in-house from the data model to visualization," summarizes Christian Sommer, Head of IT and Services at Josera. "User-friendliness was particularly important for us as we intend to provide individual Lean Six Sigma project stages with BI applications to all employees in their working area that they can use independently." Furthermore, the evaluation of data from different sources such as Excel, Microsoft Dynamics NAV , Wanko warehouse management and tour planning as well as internet log files may be possible.
"QlikView convinced us with its basic concept of user-driven Business Intelligence. All data can be directly examined directly and questions can be asked spontaneously - the answer is given immediately," says Mr. Sommer. Production, for example, knows how long before the loading process the goods were produced. Marketing receives, among other things, the necessary information about how many visitors have visited which website.
The simple and fast implementation was also impressive. "It only took half a day until QlikView was running on our virtual machine. In addition, I had already created a first application with the first available free trial version, which I could easily import. Furthermore, we use some QlikView applications that have been previously programmed by COSMO CONSULT. We can create new requirements in IT to 90 percent without external support. If there are any questions, they can usually be clarified very quickly with COSMO CONSULT. We can implement around 70 percent of the requirements on the same day."
In total, around 50 users from different departments access QlikView on a project-specific basis. These include employees from the areas of quality assurance, sales, marketing, production, operations, controlling, logistics, IT and the company management. "The solution has been absolutely proven successful for us. With the help of QlikView, we get a performance indicator that shows us where we stand and what we need to address to get even better," Mr. Sommer concludes.
The use of QlikView should be further expanded. Consequently, there are considerations to introduce the analysis and reporting solution also at the affiliate company, Erbacher Food Intelligence GmbH & Co. KG. Eco-efficiency measurements should also be possible in the future.
