San Sebastian

Not least due to its privileged geographical location, San Sebastian belongs to the most beautiful cities in the Basque Country. With a broad offer of festivals, museums, galleries, cinemas, theatre, sculptures and so on, the city has earned its title as European Capital of Culture 2016. Also the cuisine of San Sebastian is definitely worth trying. Seven restaurants of the little coastal city hold 15 Michelin stars – more Michelin stars per capita than any other city in the world except for Tokyo.

Characteristic for San Sebastian are also the numerous festivals that take place throughout the year, including one of the most important film festivals worldwide.

Even though Spain has suffered from the ongoing economic crisis, there are regions, which were able to manage the crisis surprisingly well. Commerce, transportation and tourism still dominate the city’s economy. However, the industrial sector is growing and gaining importance. Strong international companies such as GROUP ULMA or CAF are occupying leading positions in their markets. Even significant technological centres such as Orona IDeO are settling in the global business environment.

Confidence in the business sector is increasing and resulting in a 2,5% growth of the annual turnover. With the effort being the base for its positive development, the Basque region has a promising future ahead.
